What is Subscribing?
This blog publishes all the content in what is called a "feed". Feeds come in a few different formats and I've made a few of them available. You probably don't need to know the details about the differences between the formats as they all deliver the same information to you.
To make use of a feed, you need a feed reader. There are two types, online and desktop readers.
An online reader is simple. An online service (website) allows you to log on and create a list of feeds. It then periodically updates that list with any new articles which have been posted. You go to that site and read them. Bloglines.com or Yahoo are examples of this. In most cases they are free.
Desktop readers do something similar, except they operate on your computer. The advantage of this is that you can set the rate at which they check for new articles and the content can be stored on your computer. The disadvantage of this is that if you use more then one computer you can have synchronization problems - that is articles you have read on one machine are still shown as unread on another machine. Support for feeds is built into some browsers and is gaining momentum, so perhaps this problem will be fixed by the time you read this.
My preference is to use an online feed service so I can read no matter what computer I am on.
If you are all set up with a feed reader, here are some buttons you can click which will add this blog's feed to your reader:
