There is no such thing as a "free PMBOK download" anymore. The closest you can get for free are a few exerpts. You can find them at the PMI site. Sorry. Personally I think it should be free. But of course PMI has to give some value to their members...
I just mention it here because a large number of search referals in my logs show that people are looking for it.

The SEI is in a similar position as PMI, yet SEI releases its book for free without loosing money, I guess.
The result is that the number of CMMI implementations is growing at a much faster pace than PMBOK's...
PMI have probably not yet understood the new types of business models...

Cesar, The point that some people are missing is that the PMBOK is owned by PMI and they do not want to make it a publically available document. You may buy it from them or get a free copy by joining PMI, but any other source is engaging in copyright infringement. My position is that they should release it into the public domain, but they have not, and they prosecute any who infringe on their intellectual property. -Jack

You barely literate lunkheads should think twice before attempting to become PMPs...if you are unable to figure out why the PMBOK is not free and you are unable to follow simple instructions on a website, then you are not going to make a good project manager.
Think about becoming:
- a boiler-maker
- a panel-beater
- a goat-herder

- a helpdesk worker
- a used car salesperson
A career as a PM is not for you.
However, if you are able to use any bittorrent client you will be able to find freely available (but generally non-printable)copies of the PMBOK v3.

PMBOK isn't free so PMI can guard the gates to PMP--look at what happened to MSCD and Java certs. Can't throw a Google search without hitting a resume holding claim to some form of the two.
And, PMP wasn't fully recognized until IEEE adopted the guidelines as a standard in 1998.

Not only to do you get the PMBOK 3rd, and 4th editions for free online instantly, but you ALSO get access to over 100 other valuable Project Management books that you'd find on Amazon - and have to buy to get hardcopy.
As for this link about a free PMBOK - I find it hilarious! ...especially all the crying and moaning from the freeloaders. Take a lesson from the PMBOK - if you don't have the funds, then you need to reconsider your project! (If you can't afford the book, you've got bigger problems with becoming a project manager than a small membership fee or $50 - go back and re-think what you're doing, 'cause you're not ready to be a PM yet.)
Also a laugh...
I've seen some "boot-camp" PMP classes advertised... one said "if you manage project meetings by going around the room and having team members give status reports, or ask people to find ways to get things done faster - do NOT come". Basically, it means you're missing the BASICS needed to step up to the next level of getting a PMP certification and wasting your time... and money.

How does a minimally successful person with 7,500 hours of PROFESSIONAL Project Management experience not have $50? (7,500 hrs are required to get certified, not just a "test").

Being a PM sometimes requires the ability and willingness to do a little research. Stop looking for the easy answers and do some "leg work" of your own, and you may find that the PMBOK is, indeed, downloadable. I've got a copy on each of my work and home computers.
The problem is, the 4th edition is coming out soon, and all I have id the 3rd. . . . bummer.
Oh, and free training, enough to pass any practice test for CAPM and PMP are out there, too. You'll still have to pay for your contact hours, but the information is out there ... for free.

For those of you who are angry at those looking for a copy of the PMBoK, and are laughing and telling them that, if they can not afford fifty dollars for a book they are not worthy of being a project manager, I say this:
- We are in a very deep recession/depression
- Many of us are out of work and have been for awhile
- Many of us have lost homes, cars and even wives / girlfriends over this catastrophic economy
- Many of us are competing for jobs against Visa holding foriegnors who have taken over our markets, yet congress does nothing
More importantly:
- Many of us are trying everything we can do to GET a job
- Many of us need certifications to GET the job
- Many of us want to be working and to live normally once again
Please:
DO NOT BELITTLE THOSE WHO DO NOT HAVE $50...THERE ARE MANY OF US OUT THERE! SO STOP BEING CRUEL AND THINK WITH YOUR HEART AND MIND. WE ARE ALL EQUAL AND YOU ARE NO BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE.
WE SIMPLY ARE LOOKING TO BE WORKING AGAIN, AND MANY OF US HAVE MANY YEARS OVER YOU IN PM EXPERIENCE.
AFTER PM FOR OVER 20 YEARS, THIS CERTIFICATION IS RELATIVELY NEW, MAYBE NOT FOR YOU BOYS AND GIRLS OUT OF COLLEGE, BUT FOR US VETS WHO HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR AWHILE, AND WHO CANNOT AFFORD EVEN $50 AT THIS TIME, IT WOULD JUST BE NICE TO SHOW SOME RESPECT...TO EVERYONE.

Please find Direct link to the PDF Book (4th Edition) below. It's over 500 page book. Please allow at least 30 seconds PDF file to appear on your screen. Then, save a local copy on your PC. Hope this helps.
